As much as she’d tried to eavesdrop
on the two men, the horse had captured and held her imagination. She could feel
herself on its powerful back, sheltered in the arms of the Black Knight of
Heartsease.
She rocked with the rhythm of the
horse’s canter, strong forearms wedging her between a pair of mail-covered
arms. A black plume matching the blackness of the arnet flowed in the breeze—a
perfect complement to that of the horse’s tail. From under the metal headpiece,
long hair fell over a broad width of shoulders. Courtney reached up and ran her
fingers over the nicked metal. Slowly she lifted the front plate to see the
eyes peeking through the narrow slats…

If you have a novel or short work published in 2010 or 2011 that is available ONLY in digital format, you are eligible to enter. Please check the Rules and Frequently Asked Questions for specifics. We have seven categories, with two winners in each category–one for novel-length and one for shorter length work.
There will be five finalists in each sub-category. Prizes include an engraved paper weight for the first-place winner in each and certificates for the finalists. The winner is guaranteed five reviews plus tweets and Facebook posts about their winning title.
Additional prize: The names of all entrants are placed in a drawing to receive a free book trailer for their story. Winner will work directly with the artist to create the trailer.

I've always had a fascination with castles and medieval times. It must be the fact that the knight always comes to save the damsel no matter the cost. Nowadays when I need to conjure up knights in shining armor or making love under a waterfall these pictures come to mind.
The Collings Castle is nestled inside the Arbuckle Mountains of Turner Falls Park in Davis, Oklahoma. I believe the castle is one of America's lost treasures, and will one day fall to complete ruin and become part of the mountain.
Last October my husband and I, along with our daughter and her significant other, took a drive over to Davis. Being fall, the park was literally free of campers. Oklahoma was in the middle of a drought, but there was still water flowing from the water fall. The castle steps are steep and if you're afraid of heights, you may not want to venture to far up into the levels of the castle walls.
However, once within the walls and rooms, you can't help but close your eyes, letting your mind drift back to the 15th Century. Its in those sweet moments, if you listen closely, you can almost hear the sound of hooves and the clanging of armor.
